Zone Arts is an online gallery selling the very best original, affordable art by Tottenham’s most exciting, emerging artists.

I’ve worked in the art world for 10 years, for artists, art fairs, museums, and commercial galleries, and I’m often asked by friends where to buy art that won’t break the bank. My advice is always to uncover your local art scene, hunt down artists in your neighbourhood, visit open studios and build relationships with creatives in your area. Then if you end up buying a piece, it has more meaning to you because of where it’s from and what it represents.

I followed my own advice when I moved to Tottenham five years ago. I love what a hive of creativity it is here, with so many artists, studio complexes, venues and small businesses. I had the idea to celebrate and support this amazing talent, by creating a platform for local artists to show and sell their work, while building a collector base in their area. At the same time, offering customers (like myself and all my art hungry friends) the opportunity to discover and support artists living and working on their doorstep.

Lockdown was the perfect time to launch. I was on furlough from my day job at the Royal Academy of Arts, so had time to focus on building the platform. It also became immediately apparent that artists needed extra support at this time, while galleries, exhibitions, art fairs and events were cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19.

We launched on Instagram in May and then the website this week. We currently have around 30 local artists involved and nearly 200 artworks on the platform, from painting, photography, prints, collage and sculpture, all from just £20.
