London, Tuesday 14 December, 2021; Ledley King and Michael Dawson today made deliveries of items donated by the Club, its staff and players to Foodbanks supporting local people living in crisis across Haringey and Enfield.
As is annual tradition ahead of Christmas, deliveries of non-perishable food items and toiletries were made to North Enfield and Tottenham Foodbanks, with whom the Club has a long-standing relationship and a year-round text-to-donate fundraiser.
For the first time this year, items were also donated to the Northumberland Park Community Cook-Up, a local project started and run by volunteers since the first COVID lockdown at the Eric Allin Community Centre – just a stone’s throw from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Club Ambassadors and legendary former players collected items from Spurs’ Enfield training base and delivered to the three locations, also taking the time to chat to volunteers about their extraordinary work.
Dawson said: “The Club plays a massive role in its community and this time of year can be particularly hard for many people. We do our annual donations and also have a text-to-donate fundraiser running throughout the year. There’s families struggling to put food on the table so supporting our local Foodbanks is so important to us as a football club.”
King added: “This is something we have been doing for many years and it makes a huge difference to people – it’s something we enjoy doing. This time of year should be about families coming together and enjoy themselves, so we do whatever we can to make that happen.”
Foodbanks provide emergency food and support to people living in poverty – currently more than 14 million people in the UK.
The Club launched a fundraising campaign back in January, in partnership with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, which will be promoted via a 24-hour live stream on its official Twitch channel this week.
Fans will have a special code to use in order to donate – texting COYS24FB plus an amount to 70085* (for example, text COYS24FB 10 to donate £10). For each donation made, fans will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxurious chocolate hamper provided by Cadbury’s.
All monies raised by the fundraiser is split between Tottenham Foodbank and North Enfield Foodbank.
