Bruce Castle Museum & Archive Unveils Full Calendar of FREE March Events for Women’s History Month
Tottenham, London — The historic Bruce Castle Museum & Archive in Tottenham has announced a wide range of free exhibitions, talks, walking tours and creative sessions throughout March to mark Women’s History Month, highlighting local heritage and stories of pioneering women.
As part of its packed March programme, the museum is celebrating the contributions of women across history with events exploring socio-political campaigns, community activism, and creative expression.
A highlight of the schedule is a gallery talk on Friday 6 March, “What’s a ‘Women’s Issue’? – The Joyce Butler Project”. The session, led by Chlo Williams, reflects on the legacy of Wood Green MP Joyce Butler—nicknamed “The National Woman’s MP”—whose advocacy helped shape national attention on housing, healthcare access, sex-discrimination legislation and consumer rights.
Following this, on Sunday 8 March, the museum is hosting the free “Haringey Women’s History Walk – Pioneers and Pleasure: Muswell Hill Women”, which highlights notable local figures from suffragettes to designers and Egyptologists.
Also on 8 March, a creative craft workshop led by artist PLASTIQUE By Siân invites participants aged 15 and over to make unique handmade gifts while exploring themes of sustainability and artistic expression.
Further events include:
- “Letters from the Archive – The Joyce Butler Project” (13 March) – featuring unseen correspondence revealing women’s experiences in mid-20th century Britain.
- Evening talk on women’s employment activism in the 1980s with former organisers from the Haringey Women’s Employment Project (19 March).
- A pop-up visual poetry show “In Bloom” by Lucia Morciano running 25 March to 12 April, with a meet-the-artist event on 12 April.
- Reminiscence Café: Storytelling for All on 24 March brings the community together to share memories over refreshments.
The museum’s March newsletter also featured a recent acquisition connected to Annie Bradley, a local craftswoman whose personal artefacts now enrich the museum’s collections and highlight everyday women’s histories.
Bruce Castle Museum & Archive continues to offer free entry and diverse cultural programming, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore Haringey’s rich heritage throughout the month.
