Tottenham’s community film scene hits a major milestone as Local Initiative Moving Image Tottenham joins forces on Turkish-British feature project Yemek The Movie.

 

The first actor officially signed for the ambitious cross-cultural film Yemek The Movie is Ipek Epçaçan, playing the central character “Rüya” (Dream). Director and screenwriter Ebru Cengiz Ergen commended Epçaçan’s performance, stating, “Ipek understood exactly where Rüya needed to balance. Beyond great acting, she brought pure professionalism to our set.”

In the narrative, Rüya locks herself away after a disastrous public failure on a cooking show. Consumed by anxiety, panic, and stubborn hope, she sets out on an obsessive quest inside her kitchen to create the ultimate dish of her life.

Tottenham’s Growing Role in International Cinema

Yemek The Movie marks a historic step for Moving Image Tottenham. Having previously produced 7 short films in Haringey alongside 7 local filmmakers and over 96 local participants, this project stands as Moving Image Tottenham’s very first feature film collaboration.

Looking ahead, the team is expanding its footprint in North London with plans to produce two new feature films in 2027–2028. Parts of these upcoming productions will be filmed locally at Cafe Lemon in Seven Sisters, which will also serve as a hands-on film academy hub for the community.

Co-produced by London-based FabUK Production alongside 24 Kare, Cem Kaplan, Ali Kaygısız, Ebru Cengiz Ergen, and distribution partner Cinemy Academy, Yemek The Movie showcases how Haringey’s local talent continues to connect with global storytelling.
