Tottenham, London — June 2026 — Bruce Castle Museum & Archive has launched a vibrant programme of exhibitions, heritage walks, and community events throughout June 2026, celebrating Pride Month, Windrush Day, and Haringey’s rich cultural history.

Pride Month Celebrations and LGBTQIA+ Heritage

This June, the museum is marking Pride Month by highlighting its important collections connected to LGBTQIA+ activism, art, and community life in Haringey.

A key focus is the legacy of Jacksons Lane, a pioneering arts organisation supporting queer theatre since 1975. The museum’s Hart Gallery also continues to showcase the borough’s LGBTQ+ heritage as a permanent exhibition space.

To further celebrate Pride Month, Haringey LGBTQ+ Community Network will host the launch of HarinGay Radio, a new podcast project spotlighting queer voices from the borough. The event takes place on 25 June at Down Lane Park, Tottenham Hale.

Reminiscence Café: Sharing Life’s Memorable Moments

On 16 June (2–4pm), Bruce Castle Museum invites visitors to its free monthly Reminiscence Café, themed “Memorable Events.”

Residents are encouraged to bring photographs and stories of significant personal or public moments—from weddings and first jobs to major local events—and share memories over tea and refreshments.

Sensing a Place: Dementia-Friendly Heritage Session

On 25 June (10:30am–12:30pm), the museum will host Sensing a Place, a hands-on heritage session designed for people living with dementia and their carers.

This month’s theme, “The Great Outdoors,” encourages storytelling and engagement with museum collections in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Bruce Castle Museum is part of Dementia Friendly Haringey and the NCL Dementia Friendly scheme.

Windrush Day 2026 Events

Haringey will mark Windrush Day with a series of events celebrating the contributions of the Windrush generation and the borough’s wider migrant heritage.

Bruce Castle Museum’s collections reflect centuries of cultural diversity, further shaped by the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948.

Heritage Walking Tours Explore Black History

Two special walking tours will take place as part of Windrush Day celebrations:

Black History of West Green Road

📅 21 June | 11am–1pm
This guided tour explores Tottenham’s West Green Road, once described as the “blackest road in Europe” due to its thriving Black-owned businesses.

Led by historian Avril Nanton, the walk highlights stories of entrepreneurship, culture, food, fashion, music, and community life.

400 Years of Black History in Tottenham

📅 25 June | 2–3:30pm
Led by curator Deborah Hedgecock, this tour explores over four centuries of Black history across Tottenham, including All Hallows Church, Tottenham Cemetery, Bruce Castle Park, and more.

The walk concludes at Bruce Castle Museum’s Windrush Gallery.

Captured Melanin Exhibition by Syreeta King

Running 10–28 June (Wed–Sun, 1–5pm), the Makers’ Studio hosts Captured Melanin, a powerful exhibition by local artist Syreeta King.

The exhibition explores identity, racism, neo-colonialism, and systems of power through expressive mixed-media artworks combining traditional and experimental techniques.
